Year 1 Explore Space!
What would you do if your plane ran out of fuel or your spaceship broke down and you were stranded on the moon? Year 1 loved reading another Oliver Jeffers book, “The way back home” and learning how to write speech between the Martian and the boy as they figured out a way to get down from the moon. We thought of some of our own ideas on how we would get down from the moon. Some were very clever and some were very funny! Please don’t try this at home!
Perhaps the highlight of the week was the incredible Space Dome visit. We loved lying back and exploring space. It felt just like we were traveling through galaxies and onto planets and it left us filled with more awe and wonder at how amazing outer space is! The children’s space knowledge really impressed the team from the Odyssey.
In maths we have been learning how to relate addition and subtraction, making families with 3 numbers. Learning more about place value has also been a focus and we have been working hard to understand tens and ones and what that means.
