Year 2 Visit Exeter Mosque
What a wonderful week of sunshine and adventure we have had in Year 2.
Our trip to Exeter to see the Mosque was bathed in sunshine. The children were welcomed into the Islamic centre in Exeter by the Iman. Mrs Davison had asked Mr Benbow to join us on our trip. The Iman very kindly let us visit every part of the Mosque and answered all the children’s questions. A very special experience was when the Iman sung the call to prayer that would be heard from the minarets around the world. It had been explained to us that everyone who said this verse had to use the same sounds and singing pattern. The boys and girls were also astounded to hear that children their age would be expected to start memorising the Qur’an. The Iman explained that after school many of the children came to the Islamic centre for lessons in the evenings. To help them learn about their religion. The Iman was also able to explain many of the connections between Christianity and Islam. It was a valuable trip to let the children experience the culture and teachings of another religion.
