Rhyming strings, phonics and farmyards for Reception this week!
‘What the Ladybird Heard’ has been our literacy inspiration this week. The children have created rhyming strings and have used their phonics to write labels for the map of the farmyard. It is wonderful to see them confidently using new digraphs as well as single sounds when spelling.
In our number work, we have been applying our super subtraction skills; ten fat sausages and missing treasure problems have encouraged us to count back on a number line and use our number bonds to work out the answers.
We enjoyed a delicious, themed lunch on Thursday for Chinese New Year and in class we looked at how people celebrate this in both China and England. The children were thrilled to discover they were born in either the Year of the Dog or the Year of the Pig!
Outside of the classroom we have made the most of the wet weather and enjoyed a trip out to find the very best puddles for jumping – soggy socks all round!
