Stories by candlelight and cathedrals this week for the Reception classes! The children enjoyed a very special story time on Monday morning when we read ‘Can’t you sleep little bear?’ by Martin Waddell .

We discussed how light makes us feel and decided our night lights give us a sense of calm and safety when we are worried about the dark. In our artwork, we made our own dream catchers and enjoyed the story of their origin; understanding that good dreams and happy thoughts would come through them. On Wednesday we were visited by dentist Tara Hall who spoke to the children about the importance of brushing their teeth and the foods and drinks that help to keep our mouths healthy. In the classroom, the children followed up by practising their brushing skills on some pretend teeth and talking about the ways we look after our bodies.

On Friday we had a wonderful trip to the beautiful Wells Cathedral. The children were in awe of the incredible stained glass windows and we looked at the different features of the building. The flickering candles gave us all a chance to reflect on the beauty of our surroundings and fuelled the anticipation of the Christmas excitement to come.
