Extra Sparkle for Our Nursery Children this Week
It has been lovely to see so many smiling faces arrive back in Nursery after the half-term break.
This week has been full of firework and poppy activities. The Dragonflies created their own firework paints with only a marble, a tray, and some glitter; their paintings have really brightened up the classroom. As we approached Remembrance Day, the Dragonflies created their own poppy paintings and took part in the whole school Remembrance Service. To finish off the week, the whole of Pre-Prep worked together to create a guy for the school bonfire night.
This week the Ladybirds have been finding out about Remembrance Day and why we celebrate bonfire night. At the beginning of the week, the children made up their own firework dance, thinking carefully about the different sounds that are heard during a fireworks display. They added instruments and movements into the mix and we can confirm that it was just as noisy as a fireworks display! In the creative area, they painted fire pictures, and they could be heard making fires and selling bonfire night food in the role play area. We discussed how to keep safe around fire which they have mastered during Forest School.
The children have noticed the teachers' wearing poppies and this has sparked much curiosity and conversation about why we wear poppies. After watching a short, early years friendly clip to help them to understand what happened during World War II. they then created the video scenes into a wonderful timeline collage using paint, forks, sponges and corks. We were so impressed with the children's understanding of this topic and how well they represented it in their paintings.
