Nursery Read 'The Scarecrow's Secret'
This week in Nursery, we have been busy making our very own Nursery Scarecrow.
We began the week, reading an 'Apple Tree Farm' favourite - 'The Scarecrow's Secret' and found out what a scarecrow’s job is. We then decided it would be a good idea to make our own to protect all the lovely herbs growing outside our classroom. Linking into the children's interest of 'Room on the Broom', we thought a witch scarecrow would be perfect for the job. The children worked as a team to stuff old clothes with straw and bring our scarecrow to life. They thought carefully about what we needed, to make our witch just like the one in the story, gathering animals for the broom and painting on facial features.
Elsewhere, the children have been developing their counting skills using pumpkins. We sang the song 'Five Little Pumpkins' and the children then printed their own pumpkins using apples. We ended the week, using our 'Room on the Broom' wands to produce some bubbly pumpkin potions, full of insects.
We have had a fun filled seven weeks and we are so proud of how well the children have settled in and the progress they have made already. We are looking forward to more fun after a restful half-term.
