There has been a Leaf Thief down in Nursery this week
The Dragonflies have had a full-on week solving mysteries!
This week, the Dragonflies learning has been based around the story ‘The Leaf Thief’. On Monday morning the children receive a letter from the squirrel explaining that the leaves are missing from the trees, and we must find them! So, off the children went on an investigation to find the missing leaves, they found them on the floor, stuck in spiders’ webs, nests, and holes in the forest. After finding the leaves the children explored some autumnal animals that might use leaves for their nests. The Dragonflies created a model of an animal using playdough and pasta to share their thoughts about who had taken the leaves. There was also another thief on the loose this week as all the number 4s had been taken from our classroom! The Dragonflies worked together to find and create new number 4s to enable them to continue their learning.
Following on from the children's interest in tractors, this week the Ladybirds have been learning about the important part that Farmers play during Harvest time. We talked about the different vegetables that are harvested from the fields and the children created their own shape tractors before choosing a vegetable they’d like to harvest. This helped to develop their knowledge of shapes and gave them the opportunity to practice using scissors. They have also made an array of colourful tractors using old junk. After exploring the harvest vegetables within the classroom, on Thursday, we all worked together to make some tasty autumn harvest soup. Just in time to warm us up as the cold weather returns!
