A Harvest themed week in Nursery
This week Nursery have been getting into the harvest spirit.
The Dragonflies began their week by reading ‘Oliver’s Vegetables.’ We explored the crops grown in the Grandad’s Garden and spoke about how farmers will also grow crops in their fields, however, there will be birds that like to eat their food! The children all came up with a brilliant idea to build a scarecrow as it would keep the birds away. All of Nursery worked together to stuff some straw into an old pair of jeans and a top to create a wonderful scarecrow for our Harvest Festival. The Dragonflies focus number this week has been number 3. The children figured out lots of different ways to make the number 3 by cutting and sticking pictures of 3 vegetables onto their very own vegetable patch. To finish off our harvest-themed week, the Dragonflies enjoyed an exciting visit to The Newt, where they had an adventurous walk through the woodlands, educational trip to the kitchen garden and some yummy ice cream.
It’s has been a busy week in the ladybird room where the children have been investigating textures, tastes, and smells. They have made lemon and lime potions in the water tray, tasted a rainbow of fruit and vegetables, used textured materials to create their own hedgehogs and owls and painted rainbows using some strange mixes of paint and naturally found substances. We have seen the children's imagination really come into play this week and it is wonderful to see new friendships blossoming and creative minds whirring!
