An Insight into Phonics
We are back into the swing of things here in the Pre-Prep with exciting and fun-filled days, where the children are actively taking part in their learning, as well as the more physical lessons, such as games, forest school, dance, swimming, and more!
Whilst the children are still developing their stamina for the school day and with this term being such a long one, it is important that children are able to rest and relax outside of school. We do encourage children to read and to complete the occasional homework but, at this point in the year, the priority is to ensure they have enough strength and energy to give each day in school their all. Being able to switch off when they get home and having a good night’s sleep really helps with this, so please don’t worry if your child struggles to focus on reading or doesn’t share a detailed recall of their school day – the important thing is to let them relax.
On Wednesday, we welcomed parents into school for an insight into phonics. It was a wonderful session, where Mrs Sheldon and I shared phonics in action as well as an introduction to early stage reading with young children. We hope you all found it helpful and we would be very keen to hear of any other parent workshops you would be interested in us running!
We understand that mornings can be a frantic time and that there can sometimes be delays on the journey to school. However, please could we ask that children are in school by 8.30am, so that everyone is ready to start the school day promptly. Arriving on time helps children to settle before lessons start, having a positive impact on their self-esteem, and readiness to learn. If for any reason you do arrive after 8.30am, please can you sign your children in with Mrs Hunter in the Main House, and she will bring them over to the Pre-Prep.
Wishing you all a super weekend!
Best wishes,
Hannah Strugnell
