Happy Caterpillars and Happy Children Down in The Woods
With more April showers we headed out to the woods. Nursery and Year 2 made their own eco pots and planted seeds. Slight challenge for the Year 2s as they had to find their own from the woods. We were all mesmerised by the beautiful oil beetle that was found and learnt about its unique life cycle that relies on the solitary mining bee.
Reception looked at different cocoons and made very happy caterpillars. We enjoyed taking them on a walk through the woods making sure they were munching all the way!
Our own woodland habitat was under the microscope with Year 1s. We enjoyed playing the "survival" game and it helped us recognise the importance of nature's balance for resources (shelter, food & water). Too few resources then our animals were eliminated. With preserving habitats in mind, we made "No Mow May" posters, soon to be displayed around our grounds, providing areas that offer food and shelter for our powerful pollinators.
