This Week's Pre-Prep Round Up From Miss Strugnell
On Tuesday, the sun shone for our sponsored cycle in aid of Safari Simbaz!
The children donned their cycling helmets and put their legs to work, completing shuttle runs, navigating their way through a chicane of cones, over seesaws and under bridges, with some children even challenging themselves to go off-road and mountain bike through our woods!
It was a wonderful morning supported by our Pre-Prep parents, so thank you to all who attended and cheered the children on! Special thanks also to Nick Bourne for helping us run the event and for sharing where the money is going and how it will be used. We have currently raised £253 with more money coming in and we look forward to Year 2 having a video call with the team at Safari Simbaz to hear all about the charity and how our fundraising will be spent.
In school, we do a lot to support the children with their social and emotional development as well as academic and, one way we support the children’s wellbeing is through mindfulness. Last year, Miss Coker-Harris introduced us to some helpful techniques to help us focus or become calm, which we practise regularly in class. We thought it would be helpful to share some of these techniques with you so Miss Coker-Harris has prepared a poster with guidance, sharing some of the main strategies we use in case you would like to use them at home too.
We will send home one copy per family so you are not inundated with posters, and this could be displayed in the house for all family members to use. It is really helpful if you practise these with your child/ren before needing them when emotions run high. One Mummy said that her daughter had suggested she did some Mountain breathing (also known as rainbow breathes for some children) when she was getting frustrated with the washing machine, so it is a helpful tool for all the family..!
Please can I gently remind parents to reinforce the same standard of behaviour we expect in school once we have handed your children over to you and whilst they are still on school premises. We have had reports from parents and staff about Pre-Prep children’s behaviour, especially at the D-Reg hut, where other children have been hurt, and your help with this is hugely appreciated.
With best wishes,
Hannah Strugnell
