WW1 artefacts bring special meaning to Remembrance
This week, Toby Stok, the South Somerset Heritage Outreach Officer, visited the Pre-Prep and really helped to make our History work on Remembrance a very meaningful experience.
As ever, he had a wonderful collection of artefacts, many from the First World War, which the children were able to handle and examine carefully, and which undoubtedly enriched their understanding of that period of history. They loved finding out about the uniforms the soldiers wore and trying on the helmets and the gas masks! They were fascinated to learn about the animals that were also part of the war effort, for example the cavalry horses, many of whom lost their lives alongside the soldiers. They also discovered even the smallest insects would be used by the soldiers. They put them in jars and used them as ‘Make Shift’ lamps.
Thank you Mr Stok!
