This week has been filled with lots of pirate adventures!

The Dragonflies went on an exciting treasure hunt at the beginning of the week. They solved clues which led them closer and closer to finding the missing treasure. The children made it all the way to the sword in the stone to find the treasure chest full of precious jewels and gold. When the children returned to the classroom, they used their amazing drawing skills to draw their treasure map of our journey onto tea-stained paper. If you follow the trail on the maps, you might find the treasure too…

The pirate activities did not stop there. On Wednesday and Thursday, the Dragonflies had the opportunity to dress up Mrs Manchorova as a pirate! This consisted of a purple wig, big black boots, a red belt, and a friendly parrot as a first mate. It really was quite a look. Finally, the Dragonflies had the opportunity to dress up and draw themselves as a pirate. They used their phonic skills to label their pictures with sounds and even wrote some simple sentences.

This week the Space adventure has continued in the Ladybird and Butterfly room as the children have been creating rockets, in preparation to zoom to the moon next week. The Ladybirds designed their rockets thinking about the different parts of a rocket, choosing their favourite colours, and thinking about who was going to fly in their rocket once it was made. They then used junk and materials to create their rockets. The Butterflies decorated rocket stencils and practiced their counting and shape recognition as they added windows and wings to their rockets. They came up with a range of people who would be flying in the rockets, including cousins, Mummies, Daddies and animals.

In the afternoons, the children have been working on a solar system project. They have learnt the names of the planets through song and then worked together to paint a cardboard solar system.

In P.E, dance and magic marker, the children have been using their bodies to imagine they are in Space, including zooming rockets, shooting stars, moon walking astronauts and rotating planets.
