Nursery Agree Their Favourite Food is Gruffalo Crumble!
‘Aha Aho tracks in the snow, whose are these tracks and where do they go?’ was the question the Butterflies and Ladybirds were asking this week as we entered the woods of Hazlegrove.
The children had a guess at who they may belong to and then we followed the prints to discover a den full of creatures from the Gruffalo. But where was the big bad mouse and what had happened to the Gruffalo?! The children used binoculars to hunt for the mouse, discovered some Gruffalo crumble ingredients in the mud kitchen and used mud to make their own Gruffalo mud splats.
Later in the week, the children worked together to make their own edible Gruffalo crumble. We saw some excellent teamwork and the children practiced their careful counting and their colour organisation throughout. We also discussed how to melt chocolate, rather than ice! We also read the story of Stickman this week and the children created their own variations of Stickman. What a fabulous end to a busy half term!
The Dragonflies went on an adventure this week up a giant beanstalk whilst reading, ‘The Princess and the Giant.’ The children noticed something special about the words… they rhymed! After identifying all the rhyming words, the children created their own rhyming hat. They developed their cutting skills by carefully using the scissors to cut the pictures to stick onto their hat. Afterwards, the children used letters and sound skills, developed in phonics, to label the pictures with initial sounds. The Dragonflies have also been developing their number skills this week by selecting a number and using the corresponding number of cubes to build a beanstalk. They were then able to put the beanstalks in height order to see who had made the tallest and who had made the shortest.
The children felt inspired by our story this week and have been independently painting beanstalks of their own. It has been amazing to see their attention to detail when painting and using skills learnt from previous weeks to create a textured art piece. The children have worked so hard this half term and should be very proud of themselves. Have a lovely February half term!
