Winter Adventures Welcomed Back Nursery This Week
It has been lovely to see the smiles on the children’s faces as they returned to Nursery this week.
As the frost sets in and winter begins, the Nursery children begin their new topic ‘Winter Adventures and Fairytales.’ The Dragonflies began this week by reading ‘The Nutcracker’ and used their imaginations to transport themselves to the sweet land! Here they described all the delicious sweets they could see and even designed their very own lollipop. Throughout the week, the children found a suspicious parcel left on Mrs Manchorova’s desk. It contained pieces of a broken nutcracker. Together the children helped Mrs Manchorova to put the shapes back to fix the nutcracker. The children then became experts and had the chance to build their nutcracker from 2D shapes. They even named their nutcrackers, a few being, Tim, Sam and Tina.
It has been wonderful to welcome back the Ladybirds and Butterflies this week. We have loved hearing all about their exciting holiday news! We have begun the term, finding out about Winter. We have been so lucky that the weather has been on our side to bring the magical winter wonderland theme to life. The children have been exploring ice and we have been asking the question "How is ice made?" We have found out what animals do in winter and the children were so excited to see footage of hibernating mice in our very own mice boxes in the woods. In the classroom, the children have been roleplaying in our Arctic home corner, using their number skills to spot Arctic animals, and making hot chocolates to warm up after a morning in the snow. They have also been designing winter scenes with a variety of materials and building snowmen with loose parts. What a busy first week!
