Year 1 are “shaping up” in maths as they practised naming and describing the properties of 2D shapes including investigating symmetry.

They enjoyed painting symmetrical butterflies and folding different shapes to check if they are symmetrical. The children discovered that some shapes have more than one line of symmetry.

In English, the children wrote their own amazing non-fiction books all about owls including facts about where they live, what they eat, and what they look like. They learnt to use generalisers like ‘all’, ‘most’ and ‘some’ to start their sentences and loved finding amazing facts! “Did you know that barn owls can eat up to 1000 mice a year” wrote Reuben and “Amazingly, some owls can live for 20 years” wrote Beauden.

We made divas in RE as we learnt about Diwali and enjoyed singing songs and listening the to the story of Rama and Sita.

Friday’s spotty day drove Mrs Jenkins “dotty” with all the spots and fun but all in all, a great week in Year 1!
