Autumnal walk in Reception
Our Autumn walk on a chilly Tuesday afternoon filled the children with a true sense of how the season impacts on both the flora and fauna around us at school.
The children collected leaves of many colours and enjoyed watching the squirrels busy burying their nuts for the Winter. It prompted discussions on hibernation and how the trees and bushes dispersed their seeds. In the classroom, we have been enjoying the beautifully illustrated story of ‘Leaf Man’ by Elois Ehlert. This has inspired the children to create amazing pictures of animals using leaves and to write descriptive sentences of the beautiful places he travelled to, blown by the Autumn wind. Friday was filled with Apple Day excitement and the children enjoyed taking part in activities that exercised their brains and their taste buds! A wonderful Autumnal week to finish this half of term.
