Autumnal scenes experienced in Nursery this week
As we venture through the season, we are seeing more signs of Autumn around our Nursery.
The Dragonflies activities this week have been inspired by the story ‘We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt.’ The children began the week by going on their own leaf hunt. They then developed the skill to identify which type of leaves they found by comparing the shape, size, and colour to a range of pictures. The leaves were then used for leaf printing in the classroom.
To capture the beautiful changes of the trees in Autumn, the children created their own photo frame from autumn colours. The Dragonflies counted out four sides and stuck them together to create a square.
Afterwards, they used the iPads to take some great pictures. They then developed their scissor skills by cutting out the pictures to stick them onto their frames.
It has been pumpkins galore in the Ladybird's room this week! We began the week with a visit to the pumpkin patch, which gave the children an opportunity to learn about money and think carefully about the type of pumpkin they wanted to choose, using mathematical language to describe it. We took them back to the classroom and the children re-enacted the experience in our pumpkin role play area.
Throughout the rest of the week, the children painted their pumpkins, hammered golf tees into them and some even cared for them, carrying their 'baby pumpkin' around to keep it safe. To finish off the week, we cut the pumpkins open giving the children an opportunity to get extremely messy. They used scoops to gather the flesh and explored it with their hands. We then added vinegar and soda to create a pumpkin potion. The children came up with some wonderful ideas of what could happen if we drank the potions - mainly consisting of the teachers turning into frogs!
