This week, the Dragonflies and Ladybirds have been looking at the story ‘Errol's Garden’. This was a  beautiful story of one boy's dream of a garden brings a diverse community together.

Together they create an outdoor space which as a community they can share together. We talked about how we could develop our outside garden area and together the children cleared out nursery planters, ready to plant vegetables, fruit and flowers. Later in the week, we looked at the book 'where does my food come from?' and we discovered how some of our favourite foods are grown and made. We looked at tomato and strawberry plants and made a tasty tomato pasta sauce using tomatoes, garlic and onions. Finally, the Ladybirds and Dragonflies became scientists and started a colour changing flower experiment. Every day they are looking for any changes to the petals of white flowers.

This week, the Butterflies have been looking at the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'. We began the week by learning a new song 'Walking through the Forest' which we took out into the woods, adapting the song to things we came across such as squelchy mud, splashy puddles, and tweeting birds. Luckily, there were no wolves this time! We then spent time in the woods where the children made a cake for Grandma in the mud kitchen, hid in dens in case the wolf appeared and continued to perfect their hammering using claw hammers, nails, and tree cookies. Towards the end of the week, the children created their own picnic for Grandma, coming up with many ideas of what she might like to eat. The children shared fond memories of their own Grandparents whilst spreading, chopping, and most importantly eating!
