Looking at the Story of ‘The Three Little Pigs in Nursery
This week in Nursery, the children investigated different animal life cycles.
They explored how animals such as lambs, puppies, baby mice, blackbird chicks and caterpillars change and grow. We discussed how life cycles of different species are the same and different and how parent animals care for their young. The Dragonflies and Ladybirds then chose a life cycle that we found out about and represented this using different materials.
By the middle of the week, we put our life-cycle investigation on hold and began to find out about the life of King Charles and the journey he took to become our new King. In the classroom, we have been busy making crowns and celebrating the King’s Coronation.
This week the Butterflies have been looking at the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. The children have become mini constructors for the week, using a variety of materials to create their own little pig houses. Unfortunately, the big bad wolf snuck into Nursery towards the end of the week and was ready to blow their houses down…! The children used different wind-creating objects to test the strength of their houses. Fortunately, some of the houses remained standing and the little Pigs still had a lovely, cosy home to live in.
It has been wonderful to watch the children’s imagination developing, and many of them have brought the story to life during their play in the sensory small world trays. To celebrate King Charles III Coronation, the Butterflies have been practicing their safe handling of tools, using a hammer to create a Hapa- Zome flag. The children selected some flowers and used the hammer to press the flowers onto their material, creating some beautiful, patterned flags to wave during our Coronation celebration.
