Year 2 travel back in time

Year 2 travel back in time

PrePrep Pre-Prep

Year 2 have been swept back in time during their History and English lessons this week, learning about influential women during the 1800s, including the Lady of the Lamp, Florence Nightingale.

We enjoyed starting our investigation into her inspirational life with a visit from Mr Stok who taught us about all the long-lasting changes Florence made to the nursing profession.

The children enjoyed bandaging themselves and others, a very common task for nurses in the 1800s. They also discovered that the bandages were used again after they had been washed! Luckily, we weren’t having to fend off the rats like Florence and the other nurses did in the army hospitals.

We also delved into Mexican sun and moon art, looking at the beauty in both the light and the dark, by creating beautiful ink and watercolour pictures. To end our week, we enjoyed celebrating the world of books and the inventive authors, through their characters, as we dressed up for World Book Day. All the children’s costumes looked amazing and was great to see their love for reading and literature lighting up the Pre-Prep!
