Nursery Enjoyed Their Topics Of 'Northern Lights' and 'The Gruffalo's Child' This Week!
This week in Nursery, the Ladybirds and Dragonflies have been investigating the 'Northern Lights'.
We started the week finding out about some key facts about how they are formed and where the world we might find them. As we moved into the middle of the week, the Dragonflies looked at the story The Lights that dance at Night’ by Yuval Zommer. A poetic text that clearly explained the views of the northern lights and arctic landscapes, through language and description. The Ladybirds looked at ‘The Orca’s Quest for the Northern Lights’ by Sarah Cullen. As Rory travels north, he meets some unlikely friends along the way as he travels on the hunt for the Northern Lights. Along the way he meets a beautiful beluga, a sleepy polar bear and a dancing fox and discovers the unexpected gift of true friendship. They explored colours by making their own northern lights in a jar and created winter skies using marbling inks.
This week the Butterflies have been looking at the story 'The Gruffalo's child'. They constructed homes for their small animals out of old junk, thinking about how to make them nice and cosy. They also got very messy using their bodies to explore paint, looking closely at the prints they made with their hands and feet and practicing their careful counting. After such a busy time, we then created a dark space where the children used torches to identify different shadows from a favourite toy.
