It's Been a Week Full of Activities For Pre-Prep, Read Miss Strugnell's Round Up of the Week Here!
Gung hei fat choi!
This week in Pre-Prep we have been immersing ourselves in the wonderful celebration of Chinese New Year! We learned how and why people celebrate Chinese New Year and took part in lots of colourful activities over the week, including making decorations, creating pictures to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit and eating lots of delicious Chinese food. We learned that red is believed to be a lucky colour and enjoyed using it in our work, bringing some bright colour to these winter days. We especially enjoyed hearing our friends sharing their experiences of Chinese New Year, from celebrating it themselves to seeing dancing dragons in London.
On Monday, we had a visit from Mrs Chalke who talked to the children about her job as a paramedic. We all loved trying on the clothes and equipment that Mrs Chalke uses in her work, and even got to explore an events ambulance, turning on the blue lights and the loud siren. The children learned the number to call in an emergency, what to say to the person on the phone and why it is important to know your address or a significant landmark near home. Not only was Mrs Chalke’s visit lots of fun, but it also helped the children to familiarise themselves with a paramedic and an ambulance should they ever see one in an emergency. A huge thank you to Mrs Chalke for giving up her time in between shifts.
Next half term, the whole school will be celebrating our ‘Festival of Curiosity’. If you, or someone you know, has a job linked to curiosity or philosophy at an age-appropriate level and would be willing to come into school to share with the children, please do get in touch.
Finally, just a reminder following Mr Benbow’s email, that school is open as normal on Bank Holiday Monday 1 May. If you have made alternative arrangements, please do let myself or Mr Benbow know.
With best wishes,
Hannah Strugnell
