PrePrep Pre-Prep

What a busy week it has been in the Pre-Prep! Nursery kickstarted the week with a wonderful tea party for their Grandparents, welcoming their special relatives into School and sharing their learning with them.  This week has also seen owls flying through School and Mr Stok visiting Years 1 and 2 to immerse them in History!

In assembly this week, we have been thinking about Remembrance and helping the children to understand this important event in an age-appropriate way.  We read the wonderful book “Where the Poppies Now Grow” by Hilary Robinson, which ‘takes the reader on a journey of friendship set against a changing landscape of innocence, of war and then finally, of peace’ through rhyme and beautiful illustrations. In class, the children continued to explore the importance of Remembrance Day and, on Wednesday, Mr Stok came into school to develop our Year 1 and 2 children’s understanding of Remembrance.  By sharing artefacts and letting the children explore them first-hand, Mr Stok prompted discussions about clothing, equipment and life during wars in the past. You may have noticed on the Pre-Prep lawn, twenty-eight ceramic poppies which were beautifully made by past Pre-Prep pupils and which represent the twenty-eight lives lost of people connected with Hazlegrove and serve as a place of reflection and remembrance for the children.

These activities all helped the children to understand why we attended our Remembrance service at the flagpole.  We are so proud of our Pre-Prep children and how sensibly and respectfully they behaved during the service, with a special thank you to Jemima (Nursery), Bea (Reception), Theodore (Year 1) and Cressie (Year 2) for representing the Pre-Prep perfectly and laying their poppy by the flagpole with care.

Next week we are looking forward to being ‘Spotacular’ and dressing up in all things spotty to raise money for Children in Need. A whole school letter will be sent home with more information.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,

Hannah Strugnell
