Esmé A, in Year 2, attended the Police Crime Commissioner (PCC) Pride Awards recognised for her immense bravery.

The awards, which took place on Friday 31 January at Police and Fire Headquarters in Portishead, saw the PCC recognise 24 worthy winners with PCC Pride Awards. Winners and their guests were then invited to have lunch with the PCC and Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Watson before enjoying a tour of the communications centre where ‘999’ and ‘101’ calls are received.

Esmé is recognised for her bravery when she called 999 when her mummy fell ill on the roadside, thanks to her quick-thinking she was able to guide the ambulance to their location using the sat nav. Esmé said: “It makes me feel excellent for winning an award today. It makes me happy to be recognised.”

Esmé's mummy Jennifer said, "I’m so incredibly proud of Esmé. She is a kind and sensitive sole with an unbelievable capacity to put others first. I’m not at all surprised that despite being utterly petrified by what was happening around her on the day, her instinct was to help!- that is Esmé! It was a special moment attending the PCC’s Pride Award Ceremony with Mrs Davison and watching Esmé recognised for her courage and bravery alongside Police Officers, a night porter, a judge, a Reverend and others. Thank you to Mr White, Miss Strugnell, Mrs Davison and the Hazlegrove family for your love and support during this interesting time- Esmé and I are forever grateful!"

We are all so proud of Esmé at Hazlegrove.
