Year 2 had a fabulous trip to see the ‘Alien Seas’ Art Exhibition at King’s Bruton.
The children were excited, spirits were high and they sang all the way there in the minibus. To add to the excitement, Zach’s wobbly tooth fell out as the children arrived! They squeezed themselves onto the reception sofas, and were welcomed by Headmaster, Mr Wilmshurst and Chaplain, Mr Beverly.
Afterwards, they headed over to the Art Building. As soon as they entered, the children looked around in awe at the colourful displays and the variety of artwork on show. Mr Spilsbury, Head of Art and Miss Ling, Art Technician were there to tell the children all about the exhibition. It featured all sorts of alien marine life and the exhibits had been created entirely from recycled plastic and bits of rubbish.
After a tour of the exhibition, the children made their own alien art with the King’s Bruton art teachers and chatted with Mrs Grant, Deputy Head.
It was a fantastic trip, the children loved the King’s Art Room and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the exhibition.
Thank you King’s Bruton for inviting us.
Some quotes from the children:
“The exhibition was really good. I loved the jellyfish and thought the shark should brush his teeth more carefully, they were really dirty”
“I am going to ask my mummy for rubbish so that I can make a bunny. I will need plastic bottles for the ears, an old ball for the body and cotton wool for the tail”
“It’s was great to go to King’s. I loved the art and the boys and girls are very clever to have created such beautiful fishes”
“I liked it because it is quite cool to make things from rubbish”
“Now I have seen the exhibition, I am going to make a hedgehog out of rubbish”
“My favourite part of the exhibition, was the cave of lights and the jellyfish and stingray in the dark”
“I thought the art room was interesting and would like to go back and see the animals in there again”
“I had such a good time, that I know I won’t be able to get to sleep until 7.30pm!”
