Reception mice journey into the woods and find a Gruffalo!
To mark the start of the Reception class’ new topic, ‘Journeys’, the children made mouse ears to wear and went on a special journey through the woods, looking for clues to a fictional book character.
After finding a fox’s tail, owl feathers and snake skin, they soon discovered a Gruffalo waiting for them. The children enjoyed listening to the story and followed up the event in their Forest School session by taking part in other Julia Donaldson character inspired activities. These included; making their own Stick Man, decorating a Gruffalo template using natural materials, making a new Superworm and cooking up ‘Gruffalo Crumble’ or ‘Owl Ice Cream’ in the mud kitchen.
