Year 1 learn about life before electricity with Mr Stok
The South Somerset Heritage Outreach Officer, Toby Stok, visited the Pre-Prep last week, and brought with him a wealth of Victorian artefacts to show the Year 1 children what life was like before electricity.
Mr Stok spent the day with us and, after demonstrating how many of the items were used in the home about a hundred years ago, he kindly allowed the children to handle, explore and try out the various gadgets themselves. In particular, the children liked attempting to clean the floor with three old fashioned hoovers, beating carpets and trying out an old tin bath for size!
In addition, each child had the opportunity to try writing with a proper ink pen, in the way children did many years ago. They rose to the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
