Reception visit to Haynes Motor Museum
The Reception class had a fantastic morning at Haynes International Motor Museum.
It was amazing to step back in time and see the first ever motor car, the horseless carriage, designed and built by Karl Benz and his wife Bertha. We dressed in Victorian costumes and Miss Lee climbed aboard ‘Fiery Liz’, the first minibus, driven by Marley and we imagined we were going on a school trip! James dressed up as King Edward Vll and set off in style for a shopping trip to Bath, chauffeur driven by Felix. We were amazed at just how many cans of fuel they would have had to take with them for the journey because there would not have been many petrol stations in those days.
It was a very interesting visit and helped us understand just how exciting this new form of transport would have been all those years ago! However, not all of the cars were old; we had our photo taken in front of the museum's most valuable car, a Duesenberg. William and Harry were photographed next to the go-karts that had belonged to Princes William and Harry. Some of the children sat in Michael Schumacher’s Formula One racing car and we all managed to squeeze into a Cadillac!
We are so lucky to have this fabulous resource right on our doorstep.
