Reception Go Bug Hunting and Number Hunting
The gorgeous sunshine has meant that we have enjoyed taking our learning outside this week.
In Forest school, the children have been using the handheld microscopes to find and identify different worms and other insects living in our woodland; they were very excited to tell me all about the enormous slugs they discovered! In the sand pit, construction has started on our own A303, with excavators, dumper trucks, road laying and drawing up plans – I think the engineers at the end of the drive may want to borrow some of the children to assist with the project. The potato plants are growing well and our wildflower seeds are just starting to shoot – hopefully, we will have some blooms in time for the butterfly release before half term.
In our number work this week, we have been learning our number bonds of ten. We played a very energetic game of skittles on Thursday and the children recorded their scores as subtraction number sentences on the big blackboard outside. Our pets have been the focus of our writing this week and the children have been practising putting their spellings to the test, when writing tricky words in sentences to describe the animals. A short but very busy and enjoyable week, let's hope the sunshine lasts!
