Reception Take Steps Towards Caring for Our Planet
Our week has been filled with activities and stories linked to caring for our planet, reusing and recycling.
‘Dear Earth…’ by Isabel Otter allowed us to think about our beautiful world and the children chose where they would like to travel to in their imaginations. They wrote wonderful descriptions of what they would do when they got there. Swinging through the canopy of the rainforest with the monkeys or running with the rhinos in the savannah are a few examples. We have also been out and about! In our school grounds we looked at all of the things we are doing to help our planet; growing our own herbs, colleting rainwater, solar panels for heating the pool and recycling waste. On Wednesday we went to The Newt where we had a nature tour of the gardens, looking at the environment and eco systems and learning why we must protect and preserve them. The children have also completed a beautiful art installation for our outside area. Our piece named ‘Tree-Cycled’ will be visible over the wall and a reminder for us of all of the things we are thankful for in our incredible world.
