Butter Making and Potato Sprouting for Reception This Week
What an exciting and busy week it has been in Reception!
On Tuesday we headed off to The Somerset Rural Life Museum where the children made their own butter, flailed the corn and ground some flour (unfortunately not enough to make a cake). We learned about what farming was like in the past by looking at the different machines, watching real footage of harvesting 100 years ago and exploring the farmhouse – the children were not impressed that the toilets were outside! On Thursday we came dressed in our finest for World Book Day. The children enjoyed sharing their favourite stories with their friends and we had a fantastic workshop from visiting author, Sam Usher. In our topic work, we have been planting grass heads and keeping a close eye on our potatoes sprouting on the window sill; we can't wait to plant them out.
