A Trip to Wells Cathedral for Reception
Stories by candlelight and Cathedrals this week for the Reception class!
The children enjoyed a very special story time on Monday morning when we read ‘Can’t you sleep little bear?’ by Martin Waddell. We discussed how light makes us feel and decided our night lights give us a sense of calm and safety when we are worried about the dark. In our artwork, we made our own Autumn lanterns and their warm glow through the coloured leaves was magical. In our number work this week we have been learning about the partitioning of numbers to 10. Linked to our space theme the children have created number bond rockets using the numicon and have sent aliens to different planets on ‘part whole’ models and written the corresponding number sentences.
On Thursday we had a wonderful trip to beautiful Wells Cathedral. The children were in awe of the incredible stained-glass windows, and we looked at the different features of the building. The flickering candles gave us all a chance to reflect on the beauty of our surroundings and fuelled the anticipation of the Christmas excitement to come.
