Pre-Prep Have Been Getting Into The Festive Spirit - Read Miss Strugnell's Round Up of the Week
Wow, what a wonderful week!
We are all so proud of the children in the Pre-Prep for their outstanding performances in our Christmas Nativities. It was incredibly heart-warming to see them perform with such confidence, joy and enthusiasm and so special to be able to welcome families and friends into School to share these performances with you. I hope you are all feeling very festive now!
I wish to thank everyone again for their generosity with time, donations and support at our Christmas Fayre. I am utterly thrilled to say we have raised in excess of £950 and hope to be able to push this grand total over the £1000 mark before we send the money off to Save the Children – a new record amount! I cannot thank you all enough and know this money will make a difference to the lives of children in the UK and around the world, making sure children keep safe, healthy and learning.
These can be factors that we take for granted – the ability to be safe, to have clean water and healthy food and to have an education. This week in the Pre-Prep, we explored some of the United Nations Rights of the Child, particularly the right to a good-quality education. In assembly, we discussed the difference between ‘rights’, ‘needs’ and ‘wants’ and, back in class, the children discussed topics such as ‘Do you think everyone deserves the same rights?’ and ‘How would you feel if your right to be educated was removed?’. The children really engaged in the discussions and generated some incredibly insightful responses including that they would feel cross if they couldn’t come to school because they want to be able to learn and that they would feel bored because they would have nothing to do and wouldn’t learn anything new. The children really do impress us each and every day with their thoughtful, empathetic understanding.
The week concluded with a surprise visit from Father Christmas who flew in by helicopter and landed on the playing fields to come and wish us all a Merry Christmas! We think the reindeers must be having a rest before their immense efforts on Christmas eve, and we thought we recognised a few familiar faces helping Father Christmas to fly the helicopter too! Thank you to those families who arranged this special occasion for us – it will be one that will remain in our memories for a lifetime!
Finally, I am excited to share that we have our own Pre-Prep Instagram page, hzgpreprep – do give us a follow to see all the magic that takes place in the Pre-Prep!
I wish you all a fabulously festive weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday for the last three days of school before our Carol service at Wells Cathedral on Thursday.
With very best wishes,
Hannah Strugnell
