Pre-Prep cycle for World Bicycle Relief

The Pre-Prep children were very excited to be able to bring their bicycles, tricycles or scooters to school on a glorious sunny morning to take part in a special cycle event to raise money for World Bicycle Relief.

Obstacle courses had been set out on the Bastion all-weather surface for the children to negotiate, including cones to weave in and out of, hurdles to go underneath and even a see-saw for the older children to go over!  Once the children had been declared proficient cyclists, they were allowed to go on an adventure following a cross country trail through the Hazlegrove woods. 

It was certainly a sight to behold with over 70 children aged 2 ½ to 7 taking part and an event much enjoyed by all!

The children had been inspired to take part by Hazlegrove parent, Nick Bourne, who completed a record breaking Cairo to Cape Town cycle ride in just 38 days for World bicycle Relief.  Mr Bourne had captivated the children at an assembly earlier in the week when he told them all about his amazing “CAROCAP” cycle ride.  He also explained about the work of World Bicycle Relief and how much difference owning a bicycle can make in some children’s lives giving them the chance to make the most of school and other opportunities.  Mr Bourne praised the children after the event saying, “I was so impressed with the students’ confidence while cycling and demeanour throughout.”

A huge thank you to Mr Bourne for helping us to organise this event and to all the parents for bringing the bikes to school.  To date, the children have raised £240.10 for World Bicycle Relief – well done everyone!
