Splish, Splash, Splosh with Reception
‘Splish, Splash, Splosh’ has been our topic for the final half term. The role play area became a beach hut and we set up a seaside shop selling ice creams and seaside souvenirs. We have also had fun entertaining each other with puppet shows.
We made sun mosaics, learnt about keeping safe in the sun and designed our own sun safety posters. We know that we must drink lots of water, wear a hat and put sun cream on to keep safe in the sun.
In preparation for our visit to Lyme Regis we also learnt about being safe around water. Following our visit we have had lots of fun pretending to be lifeboat men and women, acting out the rescue that we saw the RNLI lifeboat launched for whilst we were at Lyme Regis.
We enjoyed listening to the story of “The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch” and used a basket and pulley system to transport a basket of food from the Lighthouse Keeper's cottage on the cliffs to the Lighthouse. We painted boats and lighthouses on reclaimed bits of board like the Cornish artist Alfred Wallis and made clay starfish, inspired by the real ones we held at the Aquarium in Lyme Regis.
