Boarding

A glorious start to the new academic year. The sun shone, the children smiled and laughed and we put on a mammoth spread of different activities and games. Capped off with mountains of exquisite food it is safe to say, we all had a great time to kick off the boarding calendar at Hazlegrove.

Saturday afternoon was awash with sport. All the girls were involved in training matches against All Hallows whilst the boys from Year 5 upwards had rugby training. Thereafter, the fields remained abuzz with hoola hooping, water slide and kite flying. The Year 8s prepared their fire pits and the turning circle and Bastion playground provided much rip sticking, roller skating and skate boarding.

The evening meal was fantastic. Even more surprising this year, was the delicate manner and conscientious approach of our new Year 8s. They cooked the meat perfectly and proudly presented their tables with burgers and sausages. It was a fun and perfect evening.

Sunday started with a thought provoking Chapel service from Mr Shaw. The theme was understanding our neighbours and the important role we play in ‘knowing our neighbour’ and the responsibility in looking after each other. This was especially poignant in considering the current Syrian refugee crisis in Europe.

The activities on offer were fairly extensive, catering for all tastes and sizes. Airfix modelling, sculpturing, ‘Bake Off’, Go-Karts, kite making, smoothing making, card making, football golf, putting, damper bread cooking and bonfires, mountain biking, a trip to Cadbury Hill, blackberry picking and a visit to the local park, rocket ball, mixed rounders, manhunt, 40:40, tennis, computers, art….chery and five aside football.  Lots of photos are available via the link below.

An exhausting day was capped off with the traditional visit of an ice cream van.

The Hazlegrove boarding community

We have been delighted with the way our new boarders are settling in to life at Hazlegrove. They have already made a positive impression and have hopefully enjoyed their first taste of the weekends. Everyone has been on terrific form and has helped each other readjust to school life.
