Our Boarders enjoy a Fantastic Weekend
The blustery weather did not phase the boarders this weekend, in fact it made their venture out even more exhilarating and entertaining!
The day started with a scrumptious cooked breakfast. This was followed by a very thought-provoking chapel led by Mr Holden. He encouraged the children to think about those less fortunate than themselves, and reflect gratefully upon their own privilege, whilst inspiring them to consider how they can be proactive in looking for opportunities to support others and be self-less. Mr Holden then shared the story of Francis of Assisi. Letter writing then ensued before everyone layered up and headed out on the minibuses.
The venue for the day was the Mendip Outdoor Pursuits Centre to try their hand at disc golf. For those of you unfamiliar with this sport, firstly imagine of a golf course trailing through the woods (providing plenty of obstacles), winding up and down banks and over hilltops. Then replace each hole with a large chain basket target and substitute the golf club and ball for a Frisbee. For further entertainment add a brisk wind, which seemed to change direction every few minutes! Having eaten their packed lunches under the shelter of a parachute, all of the children headed out onto the ten hole course. Quickly, a range of tactics and different techniques were developed, although not before a few Frisbees had been dispatched into neighbouring fields and lodged up trees. Much fun was had by all as the children negotiated the course, aiming to sink the Frisbee in the basket using the least number of throws possible. Some took the competition very seriously, whilst others took a more relaxed approach.
All the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Back at Hazlegrove the children spent their remaining time in the pool, dashing around the sports hall playing various ball sports or relaxing watching a film or reading and chilling in the common room.
A delicious roast dinner rounded off the whole day superbly.
