Lower School's Amazing Morning of Maths
Years 3 and 4 did not allow the gathering rain clouds to dampen their enthusiasm on Monday morning as they got stuck into the eagerly awaited Lower School Maths Morning.
This is a packed morning programme involving five very different maths activity stations that the children, working in ten mixed ability teams move between. They calculated displacement and volume in the swimming pool in the Wacky Water Challenge, they ran back and forth searching for the next clue in the Tricky Maths Treasure Hunt, they battled in small groups to finish a Crafty Crossnumbers puzzle, they agonised over their estimates in Estimation Agony and finally they pitted their considerable wits against seven fiendish measuring problems in Measuring Madness.
All-in-all it was a wonderful morning of fun maths, testing the children and encouraging them to work together and support each other when under a little pressure. All of the skills they have been working so hard on in class were put to the test and they really came up trumps.
In the end it was team Laplace (named after Pierre-Simon Laplace) that triumphed. However, congratulations must go to all of the students for working so incredibly hard and really doing their best throughout this very busy programme.
