Perfect weather for the boarders this weekend...
Sunday was a beautiful autumnal day: cold and fresh with a clear blue sky. Perfect weather for a weekend at Hazlegrove.
After a delicious breakfast we headed of to the theatre for a brilliant and thought provoking chapel by Mr Beverly, where he challenged us not to hide our faith like a light under a bushel. Despite a few rather amusing technical issues to do with the lights in the theatre (!) his message was very clear. Mr Birch and Miss Rudd were our musical accompaniment and thanks to the enthusiastic dancing by the Year 8 girls to the hymns, there was a great feeling which set the day off on just the right foot.
Then we split forces. The older children, whose lives are often rather full, always enjoy time at school to take stock and rest and have a good chill out so that is what they did. The morning saw chocolate muffin making a plenty, the bastion alive with football, basket balls busy in the sports hall, art and crafts and general relaxing and enjoying the tranquility of what was a properly autumnal day. For lunch, everyone ventured into the woods for a picnic around the campfire, complete with “s’mores” for pudding. For some, this was the first time they had experienced this chocolaty, marshmallowy gooey goodness! In the afternoon, everyone settled down to watch a film in the theatre.
The juniors set off on the minibuses for Bristol and the Aquarium. Our aim for the day was to see lots of fish! We watched the ray feeding time and were particularly enamoured by ‘Ravioli’ who had loads of character. The clown fish were also a big favourite as was the enormous octopus. Everyone enjoyed getting in amongst the seahorses as well in a kind of bubble arrangement which gave the illusion that you were diving amongst them. We had lunch and after another quick whizz around the displays we set off for home.
Back at home we joined forces with the seniors and swimming, ICT or free time was enjoyed by all. Letter writing was next on the list and then a superb roast rounded off the day.
