Wits were pitted and brains were challenged in the Middle School Maths Morning!
Monday morning was the eagerly awaited Middle School Maths Morning.
As the sun quickly chased away the morning fog and drizzle the children were divided into ten mixed ability teams, each named after famous mathematicians, and they set off on their morning of fun maths. They were challenged at five different maths activity stations that each aimed to emphasise the real world significance of what they have been learning in class. They followed a series of complicated bearings as they attempted to find buried diamonds in the tricky Orienteering Treasure Hunt. Then they pitted they wits against a series of progressively harder target number puzzles in Make That Number. After that they battled through a series of water capacity conundrums beside the swimming pool in Wacky Water Activities and then they attempted to follow a dastardly mystery shape trail around the school in the Shape Chase. Finally, with their brains fit to burst, they were challenged to estimate and approximate their way through a series of very strange puzzles in Estimation Agony.
All in all, a very busy and demanding programme for them, but they all worked incredibly hard, both individually and as teams, and I was thoroughly impressed by their performance and their determination. However, in the end, it was the awesome team Thomson (named after the famous mathematician Joseph Thomson) that triumphed and won the highly coveted prize – yummy maths cookies!!!
