Year 5 Maths Morning With Countess Gytha Primary School
On a damp Thursday morning our Year 5 mega mathematicians joined forces with the awesome mathematicians from Year 5 and 6 at Countess Gytha to form 10 mixed-ability maths groups.
Then they set out on a tricky maths treasure hunt competition. Each maths puzzle they solved directed them to the next clue in the series and they all spent an extremely busy hour running backwards and forwards across the whole school searching for clues and solving a series of 16 wild and wacky maths puzzles. The puzzles tested them on all the key maths topics in their syllabus including a wide range of stretching, and real-world problems. It was terrific to see the children working so well together, sharing ideas, and helping each other. In the end, it was the tireless Group 2 who completed all 16 questions with 5 minutes to spare – which is incredibly impressive. A really super morning of maths and lovely cooperative team challenge for our Year 5 pupils.
