8S Attend King's Bruton Team Maths Challenge
On Monday, our 8S group travelled across to Kings to join forces with some eager Year 9 mathematicians in the Kings Bruton Team Challenge (based on the format of the UKMT Team Challenge).
They were divided into six mixed-ability teams of four, each comprising of two Year 8s and two Year 9s. In these teams they spent just over two hours battling through three very different maths rounds. The first round was a mathematical relay race, the second round a shuttle competition and the final round was a tough open-group competition. All of the questions are designed to really stretch the children with a variety of problem-solving puzzles, which cover all of the key topics in the extended scholarship maths syllabus. Obviously, effective teamwork is another vital factor, and those teams that can work well together, and complement each other’s skills, are always the most successful.
In the end, it was Team 2 (which included Lydia H and Woody W) that surprised everyone and snatched overall 1st place after a superb final round.
Well done Mega Mathematicians – this was a most enjoyable afternoon.
