Prep Maths

In Week 9 the Maths Department at Hazlegrove blasted-off on an epic maths adventure in our week of ‘Maths in Outer Space’.

All of the classes from Year 3 to 7 were set an array of fun maths projects and investigation designed to inspire the children with all the amazing and captivating maths beyond the limits of our atmosphere. Some classes designed a new international space station, while others tried to help our astronauts eat a balanced diet. The Year 6s battled to design a lunar theme park that was both innovative and profitable. Some of the children in the lower school translated alien languages while others helped the astronauts pack – trying to making the most of their limited personal weight allowance.

One class in Year 7 created a superb scale model of our solar system in the sports hall. Aerin B-C filmed the entire process and created a brilliant video

The children were absolutely fantastic and the range of assignments was incredible. It was really wonderful to see them overcoming the huge challenges and putting some of their newly acquired maths skills to the test in this unusual and fascinating context.
