Boarding

Having had enough of the relentlessly dark, cold winter, we decided to brighten up our weekend and speed up the onset of spring and ultimately summer by bringing a touch of warmth to proceedings! Mr.Davis very kindly organised for our "beach" to appear in front of the cricket pavilion courtesy of our local builders merchants.

In blazing February sunshine this was soon transformed into the classic scene on many British beaches up and down the land. The carefully manicured sand was quickly whipped into a hive of activity with a highly artistic sandcastle competition. Ben W  and Carlos A both took home a prize for their extraordinarily accurate version of our very own Hazlegrove bearded dolphin. Seamus C also took the plaudits for his extreme version of a Motte and Bailey Castle.

There was much merriment and laughter as we had our photos taken with our heads through the obligatory seaside photo board, beautifully crafted by Miss.Fenwick and Miss. Redwood. Also on the seafront, Punch and Judy paid us a visit and the children were encouraged to create their own version of violent mayhem with some cut out characters. In the art room Mrs.Davis helped the children create some wonderful "knot men" out of rope and string that could go on a key ring. This was a huge hit and soon the men were featuring in the Punch and Judy show.

Over at the Go-kart track, pony rides were well under way with Mrs.Baker very kindly giving up her Sunday morning to let us all have a ride on Tic-Tac and Flash, probably two of the most lovely ponies that you could ever find. After all that exertion we were ready for a hearty lunch and we were very spoilt and managed to avoid the sandwiches with sand in, and instead were treated to a top-notch barbeque by Henry and his fantastic team in the kitchen.

The nearest thing to the sea at Hazlegrove - our pool!

One thing we do not have near us at Hazlegrove is water; however the swimming pool acted as the next best thing, minus the seaweed and jellyfish, we partied the afternoon away to some terrific beats on the music blaster. At 4 o'clock the inevitable ritual of ice-cream buying commenced. the Ice Cream van turned up on the dot and despite the 6 degree centigrade temp plus wind chill, the queue was long and enthusiasm undbounded as we scoffed our cones and wafers.

No day at the beach is complete without an icecream!

A thoroughly satisfactory day was had by all and much thanks must go to Mr.Davis who organised the weekend. Also, Miss Rudd for giving up her Sunday and supervising the pool party and Mrs.Baker for bringing her ponies.
