Boarding

A wet and wild weekend greeted us to kick off the first round of Six Nations Rugby. ‘Perfect,’ I hear you all say, as we settled down with our duvets to watch the French narrowly win against the brave Italians as the prelude to the Calcutta Cup in Edinburgh. Those of us not interested in rugby, spent the afternoon decorating the Dining Room and turning it into the closest thing to the Cinnamon Club in the west of the UK. Giant paper baubles, Indian flags, tasteful table decoration and golden plates adorned the place whilst some atmospheric Indian music added to the ambiance. It looked marvellous and we all felt immensely privileged to have such a fun evening ahead of us.

England won. Curry was served. Everybody retired to their houses for a film and some tuck, happy and full of the most delicious Indian banquet we could have hoped for. Onion bhaji, saag dahl, tandoori chicken, poppadoms, prawn masala and a mango lassi all cooked for by our legendary weekend chef, Jo. As we said to the children, they would be lucky to get such a delicious meal in any Indian restaurant.

On Sunday morning, we had a mixture of Nerf Gun warfare and a more gentle activity in the art room, decorating hands and creating colourful patterns with colour dyed salt. Two hours whizzed by before we then filled our stomachs with yet more delicious food in the form of a Sunday roast lamb. In the afternoon, we got the boarders all learning to Bollywood dance and create their own versions before retiring to the swimming pool, Ireland v Wales, the sports hall or the Bastion. It was an exhausting day but we all had terrific fun.
