Hazlegrove boarders celebrate Christmas in style
One of the highlights of the year must be the final weekend of the Autumn Term. With the festive spirit in full swing, there is always an air of excitement and anticipation for the Boarders Feast, Scottish Dancing and Carol singing.
At 5.30pm on the Saturday, all the boarders scurry to their Houses to prepare themselves for the feast. At 6pm, the Year 8s, all smartly attired are escorted to the front hall for drinks with the staff. The fire is lit, the Christmas music is playing and the clink of glasses and chuckle of laughter reverberates around the Hall.
All the boarders are piped into the Dining Hall. A mass of colour and sparkle greeted us with beautifully decorated tables under candle light. A three course meal awaits and the infamous, if not riotous Hazlegrove version of the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' is sung out, quickly followed by a perfectly pitched talk from Dan Cupit ( the Director of Studies at King's Bruton) and former GB rower. The evening is then capped off in the Sports Hall with some energetic and agile reels ably directed by Mr Robertson, our resident Scot.

Sunday is perhaps a calmer affair but with equally poignant highlights of the making of Christingles, the candle lit Christingle Service, the Year 3/4 Nativity play and the Year 8s Carol Singing in the evening. In between, numerous activities are offered from Christmas Crafts, Festive Archery, Balloon Sculpture, Finger and Feet Painting, Emoji Designs, Airfix, Trampolining, Racketlon Tournament, Aussie Rules, Swimming, Walk to South Barrow, Manhunt, Fawbert Challenge, Wacky Board Games, Mystery Games in the Woods, Bonfires and Damper Bread baking.
We all had a tremendous weekend and celebrated in style the term and all its boarding trimmings. Happy Christmas from the Hazlegrove Boarders!
