Boarders' conker championship and circus skills fun
With two major themes this weekend, the 60+ boarders who stayed in were given plenty of opportunity to try new activities. Saturday afternoon was awash with sport both on the fields and on television with some thrilling World Cup rugby.
Sunday was a glorious day. In the morning, we held the inaugural Hazlegrove Conker Championship (without helmets and goggles). The arena was set, the rules clarified and the ground soon to be covered with battered and crushed conkers. Bearcroft courtyard became a Coliseum of medieval warfare with two lengths of string and conkers. They loved it! ‘Oner’s became ‘fiver’s and so on…. In the end, Isaac P was victorious in a highly pressured final. We also had the Mexican Wave and chorus of Swing Low ringing out whilst the finalists did battle!
In the afternoon, we welcomed a circus trickster who taught the children the secrets of the trade. Diablo, balancing, stilts, unicycles, plate spinning, hula hooping, juggling and other tricks were all offered. It was fabulous to see so many children excel in different disciplines and have such fun in experimenting and learning. Parents should be warned their investment in prep school may soon come to fruition, with some of their children seeking their trade under the big canvas!
The swimming pool proved to be very popular as did daylight Dover Patrol. All in all, an exhausting but fun day was had by all.
