Boarders' Treasure Hunt in Sherborne

Boarding

Another week flies by and the boarders have had another fantastic weekend of action and adventure.

After a welcomed lie in (the fire alarm went off at 1.30am!), the boarders were given something unusual to do during breakfast – they had to make their own packed lunch from an array of delicious ingredients laid out before them. They had no idea what for!

A quick chapel service all about random acts of kindness, they piled into minibuses, complete with packed lunches, left Hazlegrove and arrived at… Sherborne. Then it was revealed… they were on a treasure hunt.
Divided into groups, and armed with a clipboard of questions and a pencil, they had 1 ½ hours to find 32 things up and down and around and about the main shopping street, Cheap Street. Small groups of children were spotted hunting high and low and up and down Cheap Street for answers to questions like “What is the unusual feature on the side of the Abbey?” or “When does Sherborne Castle reopen to the public?”. There was even a code to break and a telephone call to make to someone who sounded suspiciously like Mr Shaw on helium. There was an additional quest to find out how many estate agents there are in Sherborne (13)!!!

On returning to the Pageant Gardens, they fell on their homemade packed lunches to find out which group had won. It was a very close run event, with two groups tying for first place with all but two questions discovered. The prize… chocolate cake pudding!

We all returned to Hazlegrove for free time, swimming and games, before tea and the prospect of a well-earned night’s sleep.
