Boarders' in weekend talent show
The focus of the January ‘In Weekend’ is our annual Talent Show. Many of the children have been plotting and practising for several weeks and thus it was with great anticipation we looked forward to the event.
Saturday afternoon saw a flurry of opening sports fixtures for the Spring Term. The boys managed to win all of their matches against Sandroyd and the girls played some excellent netball against All Hallows. Meanwhile the Art and DT department were buzzing with numerous projects. Miss Hudson and Miss New did some Pop Art projects. Miss Ringelberg did some shadow puppetry design. The squash courts were also busy with Mr Baird and Mr Keddie.
Once the sun had set, Mr Floyd and the GAPs ran Dover Patrol for the juniors. They are cottoning on to the strategy and team work required to escape the human net and reach freedom! Nonetheless the staff remain unbeaten thus far in 2015! Dinner was served, a delicious chicken and ham pie with perfect pastry followed by chocolate crispy rocky road rolled into one.
The earlier damp and drizzle of the weekend had cleared for Sunday, leaving us all to enjoy the day. The morning was filled with creativity – mask making, bird box making, decoupage, iPad animation, soap carving, friendship bracelet making, photography (old fashioned style) go-karts and Magic Ball. Meanwhile the contenders for the Talent Show were auditioning for the final. 23 acts were seen in the end with 13 successfully getting through to the final.
In the afternoon, the aim was to encourage as much running around as possible. Mr Shaw took a minibus load to Cadbury Hill for various games involving mud, whilst Mr Atherton tried out a new game called ‘Three Ball Football’. Some orienteered with Mr Birch, more Magic Ball with Mr Forbes, pizza making with Miss Ringelberg and a Scavenger Hunt with Miss Rudd. The finalists for the Talent Show put in their final rehearsals and tweaks to their acts.
At 4.30pm the school gathered in the Theatre for the Talent Show. All 13 acts did themselves proud and thoroughly entertained the audience. There was such an eclectic mix of acts it was impossible to choose a winner however the panel of judges, Mrs Argeant, Miss New and Mr O’Neill did their best to separate them, giving constructive feedback and announcing the top three. The Five Darlings came third (Scarlett R, Lily C, Meghan S, Beatrice B and Tilly L) with their rendition of Olly Murs’ song ‘Dear Darlin’. Custard Cream came second (Bertie W, William van der W and Freddie G) and the Year 3 and 4 girls stole the show with a clever and well-choreographed version of Annie. Special mention must go to Serena F and Ines I-D for their individual performances.
The day finished with a delicious Gnocchi bolognaise and Dover Patrol for the seniors.
